Five Real-Life Moms Give Tips on Surviving the Holidays

The holiday season can be stressful for anyone, especially when you’re a parent. Holiday parties. Family get-togethers. Shopping trips. Santa visits. Wrapping gifts. Baking. Decorating. The list goes on. Of course, they are also for making memories.

The stars of Real Moms are here to give you five tips on how you can make the most out of this holiday season, both for you and your family.

Isabell

“Take time for yourself.

Yes, the holiday season is about being thankful and showing up for others, but don’t forget yourself. Your mental and physical health is so important. I love shopping, so the holidays are a perfect time for me! But if you need quiet time to read a book, take a bath, or an hour to get a manicure never feel bad about doing that.

Heather

“Live. Like. Crazy.”

Live. Like. Crazy. Is our family motto and it’s the perfect slogan for the holidays. No, it doesn’t mean to run yourself ragged doing anything and everything. It means, choose the things that are most important to you and your family, do those things, be present while you’re doing them and enjoy them to their richest, fullest potential. Cherish your holidays with those you love because life comes at you fast, and you never know when someone you love might not be around another holiday season.

Kris

Stop worrying about what everyone else thinks.”

Most of us are never going to be the perfect Pinterest mom, and it’s okay. Disasters are going to happen, and life is far from perfect. Trust me, I know…. you can see it in Real Moms. But all of us need to stop worrying about what everyone else thinks. My son, Joe Joe is the perfect example. Love harder and laugh a little more and the holidays will be much better.

Amber

“Ask for help when you need it.”

The holidays can be crazy at my house. It can be even more overwhelming if you’re a working parent trying to juggle those duties with your family schedule and holiday obligations. But don’t be afraid to be vulnerable. I’m so lucky to live in a community where I can call up a neighbor to ask for help when I need it. If you need help with something – whether it’s from a neighbor, spouse, or even your kid – ask for it. An added bonus? It’s even more rewarding later when you can pay it forward, or return that act of service back to your friend or loved one later.

Rachel

“Focus on your family.”

I have five kids, so of course, I want to make the holidays wonderful for them. I’ve found that the best traditions are the things we do together as a family. At the end of the day, they aren’t going to remember the extravagant gifts or toys they receive, but the things we do together.
