Mondays are for Miracles- Zoe

Kayla and Kevin decided to wait to think about baby names until they knew the gender of their baby. The day they found out they were expecting a baby girl, they also received some devastating news. Their daughter was diagnosed with Double Outlet Right Ventricle- Tetralogy of Fallot Type and Stenosis of the Left Pulmonary Artery- a congenital heart defect. The couple decided to name their daughter Zoe, because it means life. Her mom says “Every time we say her name we are speaking “LIFE!” over her little body”
Kayla was monitored for the remaining five months of her pregnancy and gave birth in April 2016. Zoe had open heart surgery at just eleven days old at Wolfson Children’s Hospital. She was discharged eight days later. She was recovering well, but it was discovered that her left pulmonary artery was not growing. It was during her second open heart surgery that her doctor discovered a very rare membranous web that was restricting blood flow through her left pulmonary artery. Her surgery was a success.
Eventually, Zoe will have another surgery to insert a pulmonary valve but for now she is just enjoying being a kid.
