Thank You to our 2018 Local Champion, Elijah!
Elijah’s Miracle Story
Elijah was diagnosed at 13 weeks gestation with a lower urinary tract obstruction, a rare and fatal condition that prevents a growing fetus from urinating while in the womb. Elijah was given a 10 percent chance of surviving the pregnancy. Surgeons removed the blockage at 16 weeks gestation. Elijah was born at 36 weeks via emergency C-section. He was immediately admitted to Wolfson Children’s Hospital neonatal intensive care unit, where he was diagnosed with Eagle-Barrett Syndrome. Even after numerous surgeries, the most recent in 2015, Elijah remains at risk for urinary tract infections, which result in hospitalization. Elijah is an amazing little boy who beat incredible odds.
Looking Back on 2018
Throughout 2018, Elijah connected with partners, volunteers and hospital staff to inspire our community to support our local CMN Hospitals – UF Health Jacksonville and Wolfson Children’s Hospital. Take a look at all his memorable moments!
Children’s Hospitals Week
In celebration of Children’s Hospitals Week, Elijah took over the CMN Jax Instagram and Facebook pages to bring awareness to pediatric hospitals and the care they provide to patients in the community. On that day, he toured the pediatric units at both Wolfson Children’s Hospital and UF Health Jacksonville.

Partner Visits
Whether its getting dinner from Panda Express or cheering on a Costco cashier, Elijah loves to visit CMN Hospitals partners… and they love to see him!

Annual Walmart Campaign
As the CMN Jax Local Champion, Elijah’s photo was in EVERY area Walmart, Sam’s Club and Neighborhood Market in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia. Elijah was a special guest at Walmart’s employee kickoff as well as recorded radio spots with 96.1 WEJZ and 99.9 Gator Country to encourage everyone to make a donation at the register.

Extra Life
Inviting over their friends, Elijah and his family hosted a game day at their house for Extra Life. During this gaming event, participants stay awake for 24-hours straight to play video and board games while raising funds and awareness for their chosen hospital.

UNF Dance Marathon
Elijah attends UNF Dance Marathon every year during their Rave Hour. He also meets with students in advance to share his story and motivate them to reach their goals. The dance marathon students enjoy meeting local kids and connecting with our hospitals.
