Patients like Hunter are no stranger to surgery. At just 10 years old, he’s had 24 surgeries due to his spina bifida, the first within 24 hours of his birth. At 3, he was treated with immediate surgery to remedy a tethered spinal cord; a few years later, he started kindergarten from home after a surgery that kept him in a cast from his mid-chest to his toes for nine weeks. His incredible journey has included not only surgeries, but many hours of physical and occupational therapy so that he not only recovers, but thrives post-procedure. He’s had to re-learn to walk more than once but never complains. Hunter tackles these procedures, his therapy and the regular testing he undergoes like a hero. In 2019, he had ankle and foot surgery requiring a cast for 12 weeks. You’d think so much hardship would take its toll, but Hunter’s mom, Donna, says that “can’t” isn’t part of her son’s vocabulary. He loves chatting with friends and strangers alike about his diagnosis, his interests and demonstrating his favorite therapy move — the Superman!

Donations to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals support several programs that give Hunter a
world of possibility.

Thanks to you and Love’s for helping change kids’ health to change the future at Wolfson Children’s Hospital and UF Health Jacksonville.
